Edmonton Rangers Cobras 4 v AEK Black 3 (Christian 2, Driss, Samir)Man of Match-John
George's take on the game...
The morning of the 19th of November saw league leaders AEK travel to Oakthorpe to face an inform Cobras side. Recovering well from the poor start to the season, the boys were eager to continue their winning run, but knew that playing AEK would be a tough test.
It was a disappointing start to the match with AEK, against the run of play, slicing open the defence with some neat passing and finishing calmly which gave them an undeserved lead. Despite the early blow, the boys carried and with a rare brace from Christian and tidy goals from Samir and Driss we had taken charge of the game in the space of 20 minutes. The lads went into the half time break on a high and were hungry to add to the scoreline.
However, AEK did not make it an easy ride for the Cobras as two goals were scored, leading to an intense last ten minutes in which James performed an incredible acrobatic save from a free kick that undoubtedly sealed the game.
It was a deserved win that bolstered the boys' confidence and will hopefully propel us to more wins the future.
Terrific first half performance against one of the division's strongest teams showing character to come from a goal behind to carry on playing our passing game which was rewarded with a purple patch scoring four very quick goals before half time. The first following exciting run down the right wing by Kane to deliver a cross which eluded George but his pace won him the ball, beat his man and cross for Chris to slide home. Sorry can't remember how Chris's second came about but third was after run from defence by Finley beating half their players before laying off for Samir to fire into roof of net. The four was from a throw in to Ernest who played a great reverse pass to put in Driss who raced away to score. Second half we continued to play well but squandered chances and they fought back and despite their keeper saving from George and Luke we had to rely on James for a tremendous save. Lots of great performances but John won man of match for doing well against tricky opponent.
