Match Report, Hadley Wood & Wingate Foxs, Spring Cup, Home
Edmonton Rangers Cobras 3 v Hadley Wood & Wingate Foxes 4 (Samir 2, Finley) Man of Match- Christian
The final game in our group for the Spring Cup left us needing a win to stand a chance of qualifying as best placed second place over three groups. The need to play the match meant we had to play at Tottenhall on the small pitch which doesn’t really suit our style. Due to half term we were missing Luke, Kane and a poorly Brijon so the defence was reshuffled with Finley into midfield to replace Luke.
The game started in bright sunlight and blue sky after the previous day’s deluge the pitch held up well and an end to end game ensued with no let up for defenders due to the small length of pitch. The best early chance fell to George one on one with the keeper but he managed to get a foot on it and divert for corner. We soon paid the price with Hadley taking the lead from a corner as their player rose unchallenged to head into the roof of the net. It didn’t take long to equalise with great work from Christian in the box beating a couple of players to lay off for Finley to sidefoot home. More chances came and went with a combination of good keeping and squandering chances before another goal from an unmarked player at a corner gave them the led before Sam quickly replied with shot into the top corner. Sam and Finley and Christian were causing lots of problems driving forward from midfield but an unlucky rebound off Alex gave them a 3-2 lead at half time.
Second half we committed men forward living dangerously at the back and again their keeper got some part of his body in the way of any goal bound shots. We paid the price as they went further ahead midway through the half before Sam’s second goal gave us hope. We had time to equalise and win the game but this week lacked the cutting edge up front to win and made too many errors at the back so we were out of the Spring Cup.
